The British Museum & Oxford

May 25th
Beyond fascinating! The British Museum is INCREDIBLE and entry was FREE!
This museum is full of ancient objects. In the center of this museum The Reading Room, which houses special exhibits. It was used by people such as Carl Marx, James Joyce, and many others; in this reading room they did a great deal of writing.

Over 80,000 of the objects in this museum were donated from the private collection of Sir Hans Sloane. The Museum took 30 years to build and is designed in the revival style. My professor described Britain as a  cosmopolitan culture where theft became the preservation and appreciation of history.

Oxford! Beautiful! If they had a program that suited my field of study and I could afford it I might just go to Oxford.  Some of the places we stopped at were Radcliffe Camera Theatre, Blackwells Bookstore, Radcliffes, the Hertford Bridge and we stopped and learned a little about Martyrs Memorial as well as the Museum of the History of Science where we saw Einstein's Blackboard.  The Author of Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll, whose real name is Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was actually a Mathematician at Christ Church College in Oxford when he wrote it.

We walked around Oxford, had delicious Meat Pies at Pieminsiter as well as a delicious cookie from Ben's Cookies! We saw a few spots where Harry Potter scenes where shot or based on. To end our day at Oxford we went to The Eagle & Child pub where C.S. Lewis & Tolkien worked on their writing in the RABBIT ROOM.

Oh Oxford...I loved it!

Today we went to the East End and into Bricklane where there was an insanely crowded market. Merchants were set up all along the street selling all kinds of goods and there were also some delicious food stalls. I had one of the yummiest chicken curry dishes I have ever tasted. The others girls I was with opted for Fish and chips restaurant. We ended up at Spitalfields Market where I bought some of the most delicious chocolate - Montezuma! YUMMY!  The coolest sight was some of the graffiti I saw around Bricklane.
